Cub Scout Camp Highlights

Dylan was the only one in our ward to attend camp this week, so we combined with two other wards and had a blast. I went the first day and the end of the last day, wishing I could be there every day. I enjoyed it almost as much as he did.

Lessons in Life

By Regina Brett

To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written.

My odometer rolls over to 50 this week, so here's an update:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.

17. You can get through anything if you stay put in today.

18. A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone, everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.

38. Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

42. Get rid of anything that isn't usef ul, beautiful or joyful.

43. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

44. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

45. The best is yet to come.

46. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

47. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

48. If you don't ask, you don't get.

49. Yield.

50. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

Randomness

We had a two day Camel Toe discussion at work.
One of the more innocent guys didn't have a clue about what it is, so after delicately trying to explain it, we finally told him to go home and ask his wife.
Together they figured it out.
We laughed until we cried.
Literally.

Have I mentioned lately that I love my job?

If you don't know what this is either, just Google image 'camel toe' and see if you get it then. I'd prefer not to attach the link to this one!

My big sister is coming to visit this summer! And she's bringing all her kids!!! And her husband too!!! I'm totally psyched. I can't wait for my husband to meet her husband. He's probably one of my favorite in-laws. I don't see him much because they live halfway across the country, but when I do, it's fun times. It's his humor. And the way he treats my sister. And the way he fathers his children. A true, fun example of a great husband/dad.

My other big sister has a great husband too. He works hard and is a great dad too. He also has good humor, but it's a little strange. He totally cracks me up sometimes. They live in town, so I get to see them a lot, and that makes me happy.

It's amazing how much adulthood brings sisters together. I think I'll suggest another 'sister portrait' while we are all here this summer.

My husband is a cool guy too. His humor is very different too and sometimes people just think he's strange. It makes me laugh when he tries to tell me a joke-interpreting it from Spanish to English. They usually aren't very funny to me. Supposedly they make more sense is Spanish. Anyway, he is also a great dad, or Super Papi, as my children call him.

I've been doing a little late spring cleaning. I'm trying harder to keep up on the laundry by hanging up clothes directly from the dryer instead of putting them in a basket, but this sometimes results in having to rewash the ones that are waiting to go into the occupied dryer.

All of our clothes get hung up. I got rid of the kids dressers after we moved into this house because I have nice walk in closets everywhere and it gives the kids rooms more space and alleviates the need to clutter. It also helps me keep track of when they need bigger or new seasonal clothing. I love it. I hung up all of my daughter's jeans the other day and realized that she has 14 pairs plus another 4 on hold that are still too big. Wow. She also has a nice excessive amount of tee shirts. I had to buy more for my sons because they had both outgrown most of theirs.

Just thought you might want to know.

Today we are having a luncheon here at work. My supervisor offered to buy the meat if we all brought sides. Then yesterday he mentioned that he was taking a vacation day to get his a/c fixed, but would bring the meat during lunch. It kind of made me feel guilty that he's doing this on his vacation day. I told him that we could reschedule it for next week, but of course he declined the offer. He's like that. It will be fun though. I like doing things like this because it gives us something fun to look forward to, since it's usually pretty boring around here.

Well, that's all I have to talk about for now.

Have a nice weekend.

Breaking Dawn Cover

Maybe I'm alone on this thought, but I do NOT like this cover. It just looks out of place. I'm just sayin'.

Look at it next to the others and maybe you'll understand my thought.

There's a Genius in the Family (and she's all mine)

My daughter made it into the "B. A. Gifted Student Education Program" for intellectually gifted students at her school. She was originally tested at the end of the school year, but missed the cut-off score by ONE question. So her teacher requested that she be retested. I totally agreed with her. Her score ranked her at 96 out of every 100 students. That alone was pretty cool. Plus her report card revealed that she scored a 96% on her reading and a 99% in comprehension. Oh, how I love to brag. I received a call last week requesting her to come in for an appointment to do verbal testing. I jumped on the opportunity, thinking she would have to wait until school started again (it's been summer for us for two weeks now). After I waited patiently for her to finish, I was anxious for the results. They came out smiling, but said she did well and I would get the results in August. Huh?! I looked at the lady very politely and asked quietly, "Could you at least tell me if she passed or not?" She smiled, gave me a thumbs up and said what I'd been longing to hear. I was so excited-more than my daughter was! I knew she was smart. I just knew it!
