Ashley has been recommended by her first grade teacher to be placed on the "watch list" for the B. A. Gifted Student Education Program for intellectually gifted students. Students who appear to rise above the expected first grade developmental level in their process thinking, reasoning and language abilities will be placed on this list. She will be tested at the end of first grade or the beginning of second and work with a specialist during this evaluation process. Only three out of every hundred students are expected to meet the criteria for placement in the program. Regardless, it will be a great opportunity to develop her potential and stretch her academic abilities.
Ashley's initial school testing earlier in the year had been above average in all areas. Her teacher was especially excited about the "Dibble's" test, which has to do with reading and forming words and things. I don't know how to explain it. Anyway, Ashley had scored in the high percentage in this, which was one of the most important areas of the testing. She also read at a second grade level at the beginning of first grade. Awesome, huh?!
